Kong Off/On Squeaker Toy Review

Company: Kong Company – famously known for the Classic Kong Toy made with natural KONG rubber.

Product: The New Off/On Squeaker toy

What it is: KONG OFF/ON Squeaker is a dog toy that has an “off switch” for quiet play. It’s made with the popular AirDog material which is a high-quality tennis ball material that is made with a special non-abrasive felt and will not wear down a dog’s teeth.  The OFF/ON Squeaker toy allows pet parents to switch the squeaker on and off for loud fun or quiet play. 

The toy comes in five different shapes – the bone, bear, dog, rattle, and whale which all come in different sizes.  According to the package directions, this toy is not a chew toy and should be supervised when played with.  I also noted that the package states that although the toy was designed and tested in the USA, it was made in China.  You can find the Off/On toys at popular pet retailers for $12.99 to $14.99 each.

Our thoughts:

We received the Bear toy in a size large which is actually\nquite large.  You can see in the photos\nthat the large Bear is about the size of Penny\u2019s head \u2013 which makes it\nimpossible for her to do anything but nudge it with her nose.  Luna on the other hand can just get her mouth\naround the small section, and even though she can\u2019t catch it like she would\nwith a ball, she finds the squeaker too hard to resist and generates a\nhilarious howl whenever we squeak it. \nThe squeaker in this toy is loud!

The squeaker is easily switched off and on and is integrated\nflush enough into the toy that Luna doesn't really notice it.  I could only guess that Luna would have a\nhard time removing the plastic piece (unlike some other aggressive chewers I\nknow) but this is not a toy that we leave lying around and only pull it out for\nsupervised playtime.

I do think that the large Bear is actually too large for\nLuna and would purchase the bear in a medium size or go with a shape that she\ncan easily fit into her mouth.  The\nproduct page on the Kong\u2019s Website does not give any dimensions regarding the\ndifferent sizes, so maybe purchasing the toy in a store would be the better way\nto guarantee the appropriate size for your dog.

Over all I really do think this is a fun toy that Kong has\nmade and would purchase it in a store or gift it to a friend. It definitely has\na different sound than the normal squeaky tennis ball and I think it would be\ngreat toy for any dog that gets excited by toys that make noise.  Of course I always recommend supervised play\n(with any toy) but feel confident that this will last us for a while.

Review - Bumper Pet Decal

Last year I did a review for a really cool bumper sticker from Bumper Pet that I was able to design and customize.  You can read about the review here – Bumper Pet Review.   Since then Bumper Pet has re-vamped their company and website and added a ton of new products for pet lovers.  Two new hot items on their site are their custom typographic prints and dry erase decals – the latter is what we were given a chance to review.

The dry erase decal comes packaged in a cute little box ready for gifting which includes a slip saying how much you donated to rescue pets in need.  The decal was a little tricky removing it from its adhesive paper (especially around the little feet), so having help from a friend who can hold one end of the paper will make it easier.  I tested the decal on everything from my kitchen cabinets, bathroom mirrors, and eventually found a home for it on my corkboard near my desk.  It\u2019s super cute and I write on it all of the time.

Smart Dog USA Review

Company - Smart Dog USA - www.smartdogusa.biz - they supply travel solutions for dogs.

Product - Large Collapsible Travel Bowl With Carabiner.

What it is – It’s an expandable food and water cup that you can latch onto your pet’s leash or your bag while you are on your walks. It has a quick-release clip that attaches to leashes, belt-loops, purses, strollers and much more. It’s great for traveling, camping, walks and pet sport events.

Our thoughts – It’s one of the cutest travel bowls I have seen!

​We received a large collapsible travel bowl with a carbainer clip for review.  Smart Dog USA is based in California and specializes in different types of fun travel bowls.  The company makes different types of bowls – this one is a pink collapsible bowl measuring 5.1” x 2.1”.

The bowls are easy to clean – just wash/rinse and dry.  It comes in a variety of colors including green and orange.  The bowl is very functional (does not tip over) and has already accompanied us on several walks. ​

The Doodie Pack Review

The Doodie Pack – it’s a lightweight utility backpack that dogs can wear while walking.  After seeing a well-dressed couple walking two black labs – and carrying poop bags – Kristen immediately got the idea of creating a product that would eliminate the need for owners to have to carry their pet’s poop bags.  Originally designed to carry bags of dog waste, the Doodie Pack also improves the quality of life and the relationship between you and your dog by supporting the philosophy that dogs need a job.

The Doodie Pack is available in multiple colors and sizes – small, medium and large, and also available for logo and personal monogramming.

The Doogie Pack has a Pleated solid pocket, a split mesh pocket with key hook, and an owner compartment for keys, cell phone, waste bags and hand sanitizer. It’s made out of lightweight durable nylon, has reflective safety trim and a handle for removal & storage. The medium size (which I got for Luna) is available in red, safety orange, sungold yellow, royal blue, pink, purple, black, kelly green, and sorbet.  The pack retails online for $34.95.

Since moving to Carmel our walks have doubled in frequency and the Doodie Pack has proven to be an easy way to carry our belongings.  Luna enjoys wearing the pack and she is always eager to put it on and go for her walks.

 THE REVIEW

For this review I received (after spending many hours on their website looking through merchandise) a Bling Dachshund Framed Tile, Golden Retriever Choice Framed Tile, and a Ceramic Tile Coaster with the print of my favorite artists- Gustav Klimt.

The framed ceramic tile images were designed by different artists, but both have been constructed with a stained cherry wood with rounded edges and offer two holes for wall mounting.  The frame measures 6" X 6" x 0.5" with 4.25" X 4.25" tile.  Both tiles are absolutely flawless and beautiful and I am having a hard time finding their perfect location in my home.

The tile Coaster measures 4.25" x 4.25" and 1/6-inch thick. The Images are applied with a polyester resin that accepts dye as part of the coating, and four felt pads are placed on the bottom to protect your furniture from scratches. The tile is dishwasher safe, but not for use with abrasive cups and mugs.  This tile is a piece of ceramic artwork at its best and it’s currently livening up my living room as we speak.  It’s one of the prettiest ceramic coasters I have ever seen and I can’t wait to order a few more pieces!

Max and Zoey Collar

I submitted a\nfavorite photo of Luna and her dirty mouth over on Max and Zoey\u2019s Facebook page\nfor their 2012 Cuteness Contest, and it turns out that Luna\u2019s dirty smile won\nher a choice of a collar and leash set from their Couture Collection.

Here is Luna wearing her new Margot Stripes Collar and\nLeash.  We had a hard time selecting our\nfavorite as there were too many stylish ones to choose from.  If you haven\u2019t been to the Max & Zoey\nwebsite, they are a family based company in California that offers different\ntypes of collars and leashes along with a vegan leather collection and a car\nseat belt collection.

Flexi Leash Review

A wonderful person at Flexi USA noticed that we had recently posted about walking our two differently sized dogs and offered to send us a retractable leash of our choice.  I think she might have been silently laughing at our poor and clumsy efforts at walking Penny and Luna together for the first time, and offered us a leash to spare us future embarrassment.  What ever her motives were, we are grateful for the wonderful gift.  I chose the Small Flexi Classic Cord, which is fitted for dogs up to 26 lbs. and reaches 16 ft. in length.  It’s the perfect fit for our 14 lb. Dachsie and provides her just enough length to execute her zoomies in our front yard.   This is also a perfect leash for when we venture over to our local park, as it allows Penny just enough distance to go sniffing about, while still keeping her close enough to be safe.  I will admit that I do have a retractable leash (from another manufacturer) for Luna, but definitely prefer the quality and design of the Flexi Leash over the other.

Thank you Flexi! Penny loves her new leash (See the second picture? She’s smiling out of appreciation for the Flexi-leash!), and Luna is quite jealous!

Pet-Bios.com recently gifted us a fun and charming bio of Luna.  The print looks like a beautiful magazine cover and will soon be matted and framed to adorn one of our walls.  To quote one of my favorite movies, Pride and Prejudice (the one with Keira Knightley), “I knew she did not be so beautiful for nothing.”

Paw Clean Review

​We recently received the Paw Clean Canine Footbath, and I must say that I am quite impressed. This product was created by a dog loving family who finally figured out how to minimize doggy footprints often tattooed on the floor after a muddy day of play.

The product has a comfortable and durable Neoprene top that\nsays it creates a water-tight seal, however I wouldn\u2019t recommend turning it\nupside down as water will leak out. It holds about 30 ounces of water, it\u2019s\neasy to hold onto for paw submersion, and comes with a MicroFiber Towel for\nwiping.\n\n

How it works-

Get your pooches feet dirty by spending some time outside\n(always, duh), dunk your dirty paw into the water filled container, swirl it\naround a few times, lift out and wipe dry! \nIt\u2019s so simple.

I wouldn't really recommend using it on smaller dogs with\nstubby legs (like a certain Dachshund we all know) as you kind of need a long\nleg of some sort to hold onto and dunk. We thought about submerging Penny\u2019s\nnose into the bath to see what kind of bubbles we could produce, but thought\nthat it wouldn't be relative to this review. Spots Lights Review

Luna, Penny and I would like to tell you about a really cool product we received from Spots-Lights.com. The founder (Steve) of Spots-light.com was genius enough to think of and design a line of collars and leashes that light up to provide better visibility when walking your dog(s).

Here Steve’s story…

“It was winter and very dark outside in the morning and evening during Honey’s walk times. The neighborhood did not have sidewalks in all places, so we would often walk on the road. One morning we were out for our regular walk after breakfast and it was cold and dark. We headed up the street and Honey was focused on sniffing all the same old spots along the way. From behind I saw the reflection of car lights coming up the street. This person was moving at a fair speed as it was early and they were not expecting to see anyone walking. I just happened to look back and saw the car heading right for us. I quickly jumped onto a snow bank pulling Honey along as fast as I could. We were narrowly missed. The driver realized and stopped. He was very sorry and apologized profusely saying he didn’t see us between the snow and the darkness.

A few weeks later while out on our morning walk (on a sidewalk this time), a neighbor proceeded to back out of his garage and nearly hit us walking in front of his house. Usually I am aware of people backing up and take the necessary precautions, but he caught me totally off guard. He didn’t even slow down and continued on his way to work. I recounted the incident to my wife when I arrived home and she said what else could you have done? I said “He just didn’t see us!” That evening I went out again at around 11pm for our nightly walk before bed. It was very cold and I was bundled up. Would you believe the same guy who nearly hit us in the morning backed out of the driveway again without seeing us? I couldn’t believe it!

It was at that moment I said to myself there has to be a better solution to make us more visible. So I decided to find a leash and collar that would offer us a solution to make us much safer when walking in the dark.”

I often think to myself when receiving products to review ‘why can’t’ I think of these things’? There are so many wonderful and inventive products out there and I have not managed to think of one. Anyways… these fantastic leashes and collars are made with super quality nylon and feel very comfortable as well as durable. The LED lights are crafted into the nylon and have a battery life of over 75 hours. They can be turned on and off (via a Rugged On/Off Switch) depending on your daylight situation. There are many colors to choose from and the hardware is very durable and secure.

Taking pictures of our girls wearing the collars was certainly fun! There is no doubt about the quality of the LED light as these things are bright! Now I really have no excuse for not taking my girls on evening walks!

Janet is wearing the ‘Wanna Play’ Ladies Fashion Fit T-Shirt in a size Large, printed on a distressed cotton form fitting T. The shirt is a really neat color of pink and is super soft. The key word here when describing this shirt is ‘fitted’… and if you are not a size small on top, I would consider purchasing their regular ‘Adults T-Shirts’.

Penny was being kind of a pooper, so we had Luna get into the shot.  She always wants to play!

We recently received a sample of Pure Pooch “Really Clean” Shampoo, a deodorizing shampoo for furry dogs. Yes I have two very furry dogs and they definitely need deodorizing!

I decided to use Penny as my Guiney pig, and this was the face I got when I told her she would be receiving a bath.  It’s one of my favorite pictures of her!

Being the picky hair dresser that I am, I always look at products from the end result. Did this product really lather fast and was easy to rinse? Is it really tear and ‘soap’ free? Can it be combined with other flea and tick medications? Well as far as I am concerned and after just one wash I would say yes. I will definitely use this product again, even if it means torturing Penny with the usual bath.

Fur Code Review

We are happy to be reviewing the FurCode Id Tag which is a “smart modern upgrade to the dog tag of previous generations.”  Each tag links to your personal online pet profile which allows pet owners to keep their pet’s contact, vet and care information current.  We think this is actually a great idea and another nice alternative to the Home Again tag.  Luna was microchiped at puppy-hood and we were told Penny was too, however our vet has never been able to scan Penny’s tag due to the type of scanner they use. This has always bothered me so knowing that there is another type pet identification tag out there is comforting.

How the tag works-

You enter the tag ID in a web browser and it instantly renders your Pet’s profile page, or you can scan your FurCode with a Smartphone’s QR code reader and your pet’s profile instantly displays on your smart phone.  Scanning Penny’s tag on my phone took less than twenty seconds to display.

How the tags are made-

FurCodes are Laser-Etched Aluminum, making them lightweight, waterproof and nearly indestructible; however I do see a little scratching on the tag due to rubbing from Penny’s other tags.  If you somehow damage or lose your tag then you can simply email FurCode and they will send you a replacement tag.

Here are some Fur Code Facts-

  • You do not need to you pay any monthly or annual fees as your pet’s information is stored at FurCode.com free-of-charge. The price of the FurCode ($30.00) is all you pay.
  • You do not need a Smartphone to have a FurCode, as you can view and update your pet’s profile by typing in the URL listed on your tag.
  • If you have a Smartphone then you probably have a QR Reader.
  • A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) that is readable by Smartphones. Although initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR codes enjoy a much broader context, including both commercial and convenience-oriented applications aimed at mobile phone users (termed mobile tagging).

​All in all we think these tags are a great product and we definitely think they are worth purchasing! The quality of the tag is almost perfect, the scanning of the tag works like a charm, and the website was easy to navigate through and use.

Dog Gone Tag Review

I love window shopping. My process usually involves walking through a shopping mall with a latte in my hand while looking at the window displays of my favorite retail stores. I may choose to window shop as a way to pass time, get ideas for outfits that I can create at home, or to collect some inspiration for future gift giving. What I love even more (especially during this time of the year) is internet shopping. I can sit in my happy-lounge-pants while eating a bowl of ice-cream all while doing the same thing as stated above.

Just as I feel it’s every woman’s obligation to pass along information about amazing sales and such, I also feel it’s my obligation as a pet owner to share with you an amazing ‘find’ I found the other day while sitting in my happy-lounge-pants. The shop is called Doggone Tags (which you can find on ETSY orFacebook) and the designer Melissa makes custom pet Id tags out of metal that are unique and gorgeous. I don’t even remember how I came across her Facebook page, but I immediately contacted her and started talking design.
