Word of Mouth

I am a firm believer that the best place to find a great groomer
is from the people around you. Run down
that beautifully groomed dog and ask them (the human not the dog) where they go
to get beautified. We found our current
groomer by a poodle’s recommendation – yes that’s right – a poodle! Who better
to get a recommendation from then by a perfectly primed dog?

Review Websites Such As Yelp

Yelp is the website to go to when seeking reviews and recommendations. Reviewers are open, honest, and sometimes downright
rude when leaving their opinions about services rendered. If people loved the
service they received from a particular groomer, they will say so. If they hated their experience and the dog
left looking like who knows what, they will say so. I often take a look at
reviews on Yelp, but know that a lot of them are sometimes false and untrue,
however when a company has more negative reviews than positive, I probably won’t be
taking my dog there.

Check out the facilities

Don’t be afraid to take your pet with you for a tour of the
facilities before your pet’s first grooming appointment. This will give you an opportunity to have your pet become somewhat familiar with the place, and on this visit you can decide if you feel comfortable
leaving your pet there. Make sure to ask them about different styles, techniques and products used as not all dog groomers operate in the same way.

Communicate with the groomer

Ask them what experience they have with your particular type
of dog. For example if you have a Golden Retriever, you will want to make sure
the dog groomer knows how to properly groom their fur. I was fortunate enough to find a groomer who
specializes in Golden Retrievers, so I felt confident knowing Luna was going to
still look like a beautiful Golden Retriever when her appointment was finished.

Give them a try

Sometimes when it comes to finding a new dog groomer you may
just have to try them out to see for yourself how well things work out. After the appointment you should always ask the
groomer and find out if there were any problems during the service, and you will
want to make sure there are no cuts or bruises on your dog. Remember if you are not comfortable with the
groomer than your dog will not be comfortable either.

When the time comes for you to seek out a new
groomer for your dog, how do you go about doing it?
