It’s one thing to own a dachshund and love it. It’s an entirely different thing to take your beloved dachshund to an annual beach day picnic and find yourself surrounded by hundreds of them - all barking up a storm. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 100+ Dachshunds and their owners gathered on Carmel Beach last Sunday as the Carmel, CA Dachshund Club hosted its annual ‘wee-nie’ roast. The Carmel Dachshund Club meets on the beach the first and third Sunday of each month – and even though we have never met up with this group before – we decided to visit this yearly picnic and witness the crazy event.
All tribes of the Dachshund Nation were represented at the event - including reds, blacks, black & tans, creams, dapples, piebalds and brindles. Of course we left Luna at home as not every dog can be a Dachshund. It was a somewhat over cast kind of day, but that didn't stop folks from pulling out their sunblock, hats, umbrellas, and chairs. We all had a nice time and got an opportunity to meet a lot of nice people and their doxies. Penny was all bark and personality – of course – and wasn't shy meeting new friends. If you would like to see more photos of the event, and to get a better understanding of how many dogs were there, you can do so by going to the Dachshund Meetup Group.
