Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition

Have you come across AJ on Facebook? AJ is a Dachshund who was recently surrendered from him home on August 18th. He was driven from Marysville, WA to Beaverton, OR to his new foster mom Nora. AJ was taken to the vet on the 19th and weighed in at 77 lbs. He is now on Purina OM, will weigh in at the vet every two weeks, and is on a mission to lose 40 + lbs.

According to his new foster mom, AJ was only being fed
people food (by hand), and while AJ’s vet in WA stated their concern to the
previous owners they eventually stopped taking him in when he showed no
improvement of weight loss. Nora now has him eating kibble and out of food bowl
for the first time!

These are some words by AJ’s new foster mom Nora –

"Picking AJ up and gaining the trust, respect and assurance
from his owner, was one of the most humbling experiences I have encountered. I
knew she "loved" him in her own way but had no comprehension that she
was killing him. I cried with her, hugged her close and gave her my word that
he was safe and going to live a long, healthy life with many people rallying
with his struggle. So, without judging, I say to you: talk is cheap; action is
what blesses us to step up and do something. We took our time, precaution and
did it right! Not to break the grandma's heart completely, to change her mind,
and to help AJ, was our first and foremost plan - to do with love, respect and
unconditionally! So thank you Drew for stepping up and thank you grandma for
letting go! You both did an amazing act of sacrifice and courage and I am
blessed beyond words to have my soul mate forever!"

It is extremely unfortunate that he is in this shape, but the
important thing now is that he is getting the help he deserves. AJ could certainly use a little support – so
make sure to stop by his Facebook page and wish this brave guy some luck!
