Can I Lick Your Face?

It really is a simple question don't you think? Then again, Penny is always licking my face - and I love it! Happy weekend friends :)

Favorite Moments on My Blog

I have been blogging since 2008 and I don’t even remember half of the stuff that I have blogged about.  It
has certainly been a challenging task going back through my blog and reflecting on the good stuff I have been really proud of. Most of the things I post about tend to be silly and light hearted, but there have been a few moments throughout my blogging life that I have been really proud about.  Here is a list of my favorite moments on or about my blog.

7/22/09 Life with Dogs' recommended our blog as one of his top ten dog blogs Dog Blogs to check out on the popular website Blogs.com. http://www.blogs.com/topten/life-with-dogs-recommended-dog-blog-list/
10/3/10 D and I went to our local pet store to pick up a few items for our Golden Retriever – waste bags, some treats, and maybe a toy.  There was an adoption drive going on that day, sponsored by a local rescue outfit.  As we passed by the area where they had set up shop, we noticed the sweetest little creature walking among a group of children, passing from lap to lap.  This little Dachshund caught my husband’s eye, and I suspected that we’d be circling around to see her again. The rest is history - https://mylifeinblogyears.sqsp.com/my-dog-rescue-story

06/27/11 We were highlighted in an article (along with a few other blogging friends) in WagWorld Magazines What Gets Your Best Buddy’s Tail
Wagging? http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/4ab78bed#/4ab78bed/10

9/19/11 Penny and I joined the Adventureweiner Club (in Seattle) founded by Jessica from You Did What With Your Weiner.  This was the best thing I did to socialize Penny and from there we made lots of new blogging friends.  Here is one of my favorite posts about the group from D’s perspective  - http://mylifeinblogyears.sqsp.com/blog/2012/3/10/adventure-weiner-dog-walk.html

9/26/11 We got the opportunity to walk for the Seattle Humane Society's 25th
Walk for Animals, and my parents - along with Tucker and Finley - walked the
event with me.  Between the three of us we raised $500 for the walk. https://mylifeinblogyears.sqsp.com/2011/9/26/the-seattle-humane-society-walk-for-animals.html

6/21/12 - I went to BlogPaws . The key for me not being able to go in the past has always been location and timing of the event (and myself) so with me not working and living just one state away I absolutely had to go. I was very happy to have had the opportunity to personally connect with other pet bloggers, to meet the faces of some of my favorite blogs, and to further my knowledge about the details that it takes to be a better blogger. http://mylifeinblogyears.sqsp.com/2012/6/27/do-dogs-attend-blogpaws.html

7/21/12 We teamed up with You Did What With Your Weiner and Dachshund Nola to host a Black and White Sunday blog hop which has turned out to be one of the favorite features on my blog. http://mylifeinblogyears.sqsp.com/black-and-wh
Last month we reached over 20,000 views on our Youtube page – which I find amusing as my videos are quite corny and poorly made.  My most popular videos include -Does your dog Purr like a Cat? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32ALx3Kx1QA and Bitter Apple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o42ilT_SxE

Have you taken the time to go back and reflect on your blog? What have been your favorite moments that you are most proud of?

My Grooming Tool Box

What's In your Grooming Tool Box?

It’s fair to say that I have experience using a pair of shears and clippers.  I have been cutting hair for twelve years and I feel that gives me a slight advantage when it comes to grooming my dog’s feet.  I trust my
hands and the accuracy that comes with them; however it takes practice and a lot of patience to do a good job. I am not ashamed to admit that sometimes there are days when Penny’s dark nails intimidate me. Since I give my dogs their pedicures at home it requires me to accommodate a few tools. Here is a list of tools that I use when giving my dogs their pretty feet.

Plier Style Clippers – These function like a pair of pruning shears which surround and cut through your dog’s nail.  You are able to see where the clipper will cut so you can determine where you want to cut the nail.
Guillotine Style Clippers – These have a stationary ring where you place the nail. By pressing down on the handles you will cut the nail as it’s cutting blade moves up to slice off the dogs nail. A nice advantage to these clippers is that you can replace the blades when they become dull. Penny is always fussy during her nail trimming session; so depending on her state of mind (and tolerance level) I use both style of clippers on her. It really just depends on how squirrely she is going to be and how confident I am feeling at the
moment.
Dog Nail Grinder – Depending on the model purchased they usually have a high or low-speed rotating pad that you use against the nails on your dog.  The grinder doesn’t cut the nails but files them down instead. I use these to safely smooth the nails after they have been clipped.
Regular Nail Files – Sometimes these come in handy when Penny just doesn’t want to be bothered by the sound of the nail grinder.
Styptic Powder – Is designed to be used to aid in the stopping of blood.
Wahl Peanut Trimmers – These little trimmers are great at quickly trimming away unwanted fur around their pads. It’s quite and small and does a nice job.
PetSafe Lickety Stik – Is a natural liquid treat (made in the USA) with only one calorie per every ten licks.  This little treat only comes out when grooming Penny’s feet and I use it not only as a treat but also as a distraction.

D Gets A Knee Injury

10:45 am: Great - Not too thrilled to get a phone call this morning from the soccer field about D getting
a knee injuring playing soccer.  Time to go meet him at the ER.  11:30 am: Waiting in the ER for the docs to take x-rays. D said that his knee popped about five times before he hit the ground – gross! 3:10 pm: So, turns out there no major break or dis-alignment, but there is a possibility of a slight tear. D will follow up with an Ortho this week. 7:30 pm: Penny and Luna sense that D is not feeling too well.  They are doing their best to keep him smiling!

Review - Bumper Pet Decals

Last year I did a review for a really cool bumper sticker from Bumper Pet that I was able to design and customize.  You can read about the review here – Bumper Pet Review.   Since then Bumper Pet has re-vamped their company and website and added a ton of new products for pet lovers.  Two new hot items on their site are their custom typographic prints and dry erase decals – the latter is what we were given a chance to review.
The Dachshund Dry Erase Decal –
-Price $16.50
- Measures 8.5"x16"
- Includes a black dry erase marker
- Self-adhesive and removable dry erase decal
- $1 from this sale goes to the charity of the month
- Printed in the USA using eco-friendly inks

The dry erase decal comes packaged in a cute little box
ready for gifting which includes a slip saying how much you donated to rescue pets in need.  The decal was a little tricky removing it from its adhesive paper (especially around the little feet), so having help from a friend who can hold one end of the paper will make it easier.  I tested the decal on everything from my kitchen cabinets, bathroom mirrors, and eventually found a home for it on my corkboard near my desk.  It’s super cute and I write on it all of the time. Here is the technical stuff from their website –
Are your products really made in the USA?
Absolutely! All of our products, except the t-shirts we print on, are made in the USA. Unfortunately, at this time, we have been unable to find a manufacturer of USA made shirts that fit our specifications. We have
tried American Apparel brand but have been greatly unsatisfied with their quality and fit. We are constantly working on find a solution to this problem.
What brand of t-shirts do you use?
We currently use Gildan brand shirts for our men's cuts and Bella brand shirts for our ladies cuts.
I don't see my breed listed...will you add it?
Sometimes! However, because of the large amount of dog breeds we cannot cover every single one. This is why we have our "design your own" option.
Who designs your stuff?
All our designs come from our in-house design staff and are 100% original.
Do you really donate money to charity?
Absolutely! Our company was founded as a way to help underfunded charities raise money. If you have any questions or concerns about our charitable giving’s we are happy to send references. Make sure to check out their website as they have lots of neat items that you can customize and have fun with! You can also find them on Facebook here - Facebook/bumperpet

I received this product free from Bumper Pet.
I was not required to write a positive review, the opinions I have
expressed are my own. I only recommend products or services I use personally
and believe will be good for my readers.
